As we near December I’ve also got advent calendars on my mind…I keep saying each year that I will do something so the kids can enjoy this lovely tradition in the run up to Christmas but I have yet to do it. This year will be different (she says). So, a couple of pictures via a merry mishap from last year to start getting me inspired to try my hand at a little advent DIY. What are your traditions around this time of year?
m2matiz love
I’ve got gifts on my mind and thought I’d share some of my wishlist (both for myself and for my giftees). I’ve met some truly wonderful folk over on Instagram in the last year, many of whom are makers so would love to help promote them in any way I can.
To start, the wonderfully creative Mariana from m2matiz – whom I randomly emailed the details of a local Melbourne wood brander manufacturer to, because I thought she was better off spending her time on her wonderful photos rather than etching her name into her pieces (yeah, I do stuff like that) – luckily, she didn’t think me crazy and we’ve been in touch via Instagram for the last few months. She sent me her under heaven “t.lighthaus” (a cover that allows you to turn any jar into a beautiful tea light candle holder) and I have been besotted ever since.
Check out her website for more and also good to know is that the t.lighthaus comes flat pack in an envelope so they are very very easy to have posted to you or anyone else around the world for that matter. Enjoy!
Tiny Miracles
Aaaah … Between Nat taking some rightly deserved time off on maternity leave, my crazy day job and being smack bang in the middle of our attic renovations, things have slipped through a little. Today I found a postcard that I picked up at the Amsterdam Woonbeurs (interiors fair) at the beginning of October about something more than just a little bit wonderful and it would be remiss of me not to tell you about it.
Dutch designer Pepe Heykoop opened his workshop last year in one of Mumbai’s poorest areas. In conjunction with his cousin’s Tiny Miracles Foundation he teaches skills that he hopes will allow the community to increase its standard of life. Awesome.
Right now 3 items are in production, the Paper Vase Cover (which transforms any bottle into a vase – great gift idea I think!), the Matka Vase (made from furniture industry leather scraps) and the Leather Lampshade (prrrrr). Go check them out and get some feel good factor with your designery buy!
Baby Stuff Explosion
I’ve been thinking about this ever since I entered the last trimester…
I’ve been doing apartment diet long enough that I can (mostly) reduce my need for too much unnecessary stuff. But then you fall pregnant and your head shifts to providing for someone else and you get these lists of things you ‘need’ and suddenly – ARGH!
I’ve been pretty restrained so far but even so at birth this 3+kg bebe will already have:
- a dresser / change table
- half a closet (still empty but housing a lot of the stuff below)
- a bouncer
- a pram
- a crib
- a night light
- a mini crib/bassinet
- a baby bath and towels
- swaddles & blankets
- a mobile
- toys
- books
- cute clothing
Admittedly, I’ve convinced myself that I’m being restrained because I haven’t actually bought all of these things, I’ve accepted them on loan and as gifts from friends and family, but even so!
But still, he’s going to be teeny, and he already owns all this stuff.
So, how did you all cope with the baby stuff explosion? And what strategies do you have for keeping it at bay?
* A little update as Nat wrote this a while ago – she is now the mother of a very cute little fellow – congratulations darling Nat! Tipxo
Mini Trend – Raw/Unfinished Wood
I’ve been noticing a lot of raw/unfinished or any other kind of wood popping up in the interiorsphere lately so thought I’d do a little roundup of ideas – because we all love a roundup, don’t we?
Some inspiration from the Amsterdam Woonbeurs earlier this month:
You could try your hand at a plywood DIY (a desk or pegboard shelving perhaps):
Do your whole room like this small space storage awesomeness:
Or just bring in a few accessories here and there:
Are you going to jump on this raw wood trend too? If so, let us know how (send us a pic – we’d love to see it!).
Halloween & Painted Pumpkins
We’re loving the painted pumpkin trend we’ve seen floating around the web this last month.
Wack on a coat of paint & you’re done! Happy Halloween!
PS You may also enjoy this polka dot pumpkin if you’re into a bit of carving.
Supercool baby blankets
Loving these baby blankets by The Supercool!
PS they’re also one of our most popular pins this month
Playtype’s Concept Store Revamp (Copenhagen)
Today I’m loving playtype’s concept store….
and waaah now I want to go to copenhagen again, stat!
Oh, and this image of theirs totally inspires me:
(maybe because it includes trends like pink, big type & concrete?)

Our New (Blog) Home
Sometimes, it’s not enough to change around what’s inside, sometimes you have to physically move to a new place…
It’s something we all know, and it’s something working with eCourse participants and clients has continually reminded us of…
After happily blogging over at Tumblr for 3.5 years we out grew our blog. We needed to find a home that allowed us a better structure to share more: more stories & conversations, before and afters…more lessons, tips and tricks…and more of what our blog has evolved to: a small business guiding you to healthier, happier, de-cluttered homes.
We choose WordPress and today we officially moved in!
Like with all big moves it’s still a work in progress, but what isn’t? So…
Welcome to our new blog & website!
We invite you to have look around. Check out our menu to find out more about us and our little business. You can now also subscribe to our newsletter to keep up to date with our news and courses (we promise never to spam you).
You’ll still find us on Tumblr (we love our tumblr community!) but we’ll be more image focused over there. You’ll also find us hanging out on Pinterest, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram and of course, here, on our new blog & website!
We hope you like it!
xo Tip & Nat
